Huahine

The Garden of Eden

¿Adónde quieres ir?

75 km² • 6 263 residents • 669 m (Mount Turi)

Huahine has all the hallmarks of its neighbouring islands — a lagoon, motu and mountains — but very few people. There is just one main village, Fare, where the ferry arrives alongside two small cafés. Beyond it lie vanilla plantations, traditional stone fish traps still in use today, and the largest collection of marae in Polynesia, at Maeva, a site that has been continuously inhabited for more than a thousand years.

Access

40-min flight from Tahiti

Good to know

Huahine is the starting point for the famous annual pirogue race, the Hawaiki Nui Va’a. This sporting event brings rowers from Polynesia, New Caledonia, Hawaii and mainland France.
