Tubuai

The island of abundance

Where do you want to go ?

45 km² • 2 185 residents • 422 m (Mount Taita’a)

Located near the Tropic of Capricorn, Tubuai enjoys a cooler climate and boasts a jade-green lagoon. The island grows carrots, potatoes and other crops, which may surprise many visitors: it offers a different side of Polynesia. In 1789, the mutineers of the Bounty attempted to establish a settlement here. The site of their former fort can still be visited, along with the island’s secluded motu.
